This portion of #NedZero Action Plan was updated: 1F-02: Support and help coordinate wildfire mitigation efforts by Saws and Slaws, the USDA Forest Service, Boulder County, and others.

F. Firewise Communities #Firewise @Firewise http://ift.tt/1GuVD1O Public Works is working with Scott Golden, Boulder County Forestry Specialist, to help remove slash and wood from Nederland's parks and open spaces that have been cut by volunteers and youth corps. While this is a time consuming project, that detracts from Public Works primary goals of maintaining infrastructure such as roads, we recognize the importance of a healthy forest. updated by: chrispelletier1

This portion of #NedZero Action Plan was updated: 6J-02: Establish Energy Baseline for Town operations, including transportation and process loads (water treatment, etc.)

J. Sustainable Logistics #Logistics http://ift.tt/1LvD161 Utilities has been attending workshops to better understand energy consumption at the water plant. While energy consumption is very important, Energy demand is what drives costs. Peak demand is measured as the highest total usage or need, at any 15 minutes throughout the month and then charged that rate for the entire month even if that peak only happened once. Because of the unpredictable nature of making water, it may be necessary to make water faster based on the community needs, during some point during the month causing costs to increase. Knowing this is important, and allows us to change how we operate to reduce costs. We hope to see the results of our changes in the coming months. updated by: chrispelletier1

This portion of #NedZero Action Plan was updated: 3Y-03: Implement a Grease Interceptor Policy for Sanitary Sewer

Y. Septic System Inventory #Septic http://ift.tt/1Tu797s Sec 13-27 of Nederland's municipal code requires sanitary pretreatment. While our FOG (fats, oils, and grease) program is in its infancy, we are constantly trying to improve it and enforce grease trap measures on new commercial construction. Public Works is also aware of possible nutrient loading from marijuana cultivation and works with growers to prevent excess nutrient from being dumped down the sewer. Nitrates and phosphorus have to be removed from waste water because they are very damaging to the environment. updated by: chrispelletier1

This portion of #NedZero Action Plan was updated: 3Y-01: On a yearly basis, inventory any known problems that have occurred with septic systems and meet with Boulder County to assess programs and funding that could be used to encourage homeowners to transition to Town sewer and to reach the goal of improved water quality.

Y. Septic System Inventory #Septic http://ift.tt/1R94Ti3 Several areas are identified in the town's MIP to transition from septic systems and extend the sewer system. The Hilltop area would be relatively inexpensive and probably the next area to extend. updated by: chrispelletier1

This portion of #NedZero Action Plan was updated: 3Y-02: Identify and repair areas of sanitary sewer that are experiencing infiltration and inflow

Y. Septic System Inventory #Septic http://ift.tt/1Tu7c39 This is an ongoing project for Public Works. In 2014 we received funding from FEMA to make major repairs to 4300 feet of sewer mains and service taps, helping to reduce the load on the new waste water plant. Additionally, we have received a grant fro the amount of $200,000.00 to repairs in the old town area during 2015. We will continue to budget and invest in repairs for the future. It is far more sustainable to repair fix and repair our broken infrastructure than to expand the waste water plant to accommodate high flows from ground water. updated by: chrispelletier1
